ALEXANDR PUSHKIN: To the Baby

To the Baby

1824
My child, I dare not, over you,
To start the blessing’s simple citation.
You’re – with your peaceful heart and view –
An Angel, bringing consolation.

Let all your days be fully clear,
As fully clear is your look now.
Amidst all fates, the world’s to bear,
Let yours be beautiful and proud.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, March 7, 2005
