N. VANHANEN: "To Move Apart..."

"To Move Apart..."

(From Juan Ramon Jimenez)
To move apart by your own brow’s pressure
the tout nature’s crown, you have met,
and, having rigged your thoughts with light and measure,
leave them forever in another circle set,
the wider one!...
               In such a perfect fashion,
that all the world, out that circle left,
were like the street, the empty at noon Sunday’s –
the mute, the deaf, sunk into helpless dullness,
strange to the heart, inspired with the great!

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, December, 2002
