INNA LISYANSKY: "Tho' I Have Not Any Hard Ground"

"Tho' I Have Not Any Hard Ground"

Tho’ I have not any hard ground,
But isn’t it a wonder, at all? –
To laugh with your heart spread around,
To mourn in deeps of your soul.

This all is well-planned and well-serviced.
And that’s why this life’s good to live:
‘Cause gladness, like heart, is not endless,
And soul – eternal with grief.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, June, 2001
