DMITRY KOVALEV: "We Often Speak..."

"We Often Speak..."

We often speak about world and rest,
About future (which will be a pleasure),
But do we ever know ourselves?…
We’ve hidden us from us in whole measure.

How dare I live without cutting ring?
With such strong thirst and ever sleepless soul…
To tell me self of self? But only real thing!
Such that shocked men would check themselves in whole.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, July, 2001
