OLEG DMITRIEV: Comprehension

Comprehension

To those long and covered with sands shores
My soul’s gratitude is one sincere and endless.
When waves were crawling to my feet in wrath,
And slowly returning home, breathless...
I understood the goal of high tides,
And the eternal work of tides, called low…
When after hiding bottom from my sight,
The sea again was ready it to show, --
The two great truths were given me by waves,
Reflecting light, the husky one and grayish:
“All vanishes in world without trace.”
“It is impossible without trace to vanish.”

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, July, 2001
