MIKHAIL LVOV: By the Entrance Into Scalat

By the Entrance Into Scalat

1944
To A. B. Lozovsky
My colonel, d’you recall that place:
The “Tiger”, blazed by fire’s splashes,
And the tank from Urals, too in ashes –
There stay forever face to face.

My colonel, d’you recall: on roads,
We, too, were lead right through the death
By same character, to tanks close, –
To break through line or to be blazed.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, August, 2001
