Woman’s cry is heard from distant place –
Sings a lullaby for her beloved cutting –
Endless fear, trouble of all earth
Pour into this ever-sad reciting.

First a bullet, sent in any war,
Always hits heart of a mother, poor, –
Who wins battle, after or before, --
Mother’s heart’s a sufferer for sure.
