KONSTANTIN BALMONT: Not a Smile, Nor a Word

Not a Smile, Nor a Word

In the brilliant snow resort,
Under frozen shine of the Moon,
So good it’s for us! Not a smile, nor a word,
We have sunk into sea of mysterious swoon,
As the dwellers of shining and transparent world,
In the kingdom of Moon.

So nice it’s, in deep of the fabulous nights,
To forget, like a child, bad and grim,
And, forgetting that love is forbidden for us,
So pleasant – to love and to dream.
Not a smile, nor a word
In the silence of night,
In the clean blossoms’ world,
In the realm of Moonlight.

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, October 3, 2001
