EDUARD ASADOV: "You Sigh Very Often..."

"You Sigh Very Often..."

You sigh very often: ‘It’s easy for fools,
They live under heaven that’s clear!’
Or say in a temper: ‘It’s good for the brutes,
They always succeed what they gear!’

Of course, a fool’s road is always in ease,
But don’t try to humbug your soul:
Would you be agreed to live life a fool lives,
Tho’ his fate is easy, in whole.

And would you agree to take scoundrel’s place –
To rob or to drown some person?
So, why do you stand with such furious face?
I think, you have fathomed the lesson! …

Translated by Yevgeny Bonver, March, 2001
