Serena Ounanian: THESE THINGS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND

These Things I Do Not Understand

only death

spiraling in the deep below
watching life
but it's not living
never thinking
never giving

no one knows to
only ask
me for my thoughts
and I would give my
mind runs free
a formidable task
but not for me

tell me
I am alive
and I will see
but never
strive to make this life any
better than the last
and I will live
these moments past
if only you would ask
me who I am
I never know
these anymore
these sore
and fragile people who though
they take who all
they can not shake
me if my thoughts are small
and never make
it to my
mouth to try
to bite and tear
and rip. so there
i never live for fear
that I will never see
the light.
and in my fright
though solely mine
I stop, and by design
will never be.
