kates: LIFE IN PROGRESS

Life in Progress

he has grown
through puberty
two middle-aged crisises
a marriage and divorce
reached the end
frightened of dying
and awaiting it
anxiously
there is no cause for hurriedness
but you can't break the man
of his habits
he limps along the shore
cane in hand
dog by side
allowing this timed half-hour
for prescribed relaxation
